She is a young girl who is presented to an imprisoned Kara Thrace by Leoben Conoy, who claims that Kacey is Kara's daughter. He explains that Kacey was conceived with his sperm and an egg taken from Kara during her imprisonment at the Caprica breeding farm. Leoben forces Kara to spend time with the child, as part of his attempt to break Kara and get her to admit that she loves him.

Kacey and Kara are left alone together, with Kara refusing to acknowledge her. On her own, Kacey falls down a staircase and suffers a serious head injury, and Kara is forced to call on Leoben to help get her to a hospital. As Kacey recovers, Kara seems to accept that she is her daughter - she even reaches her hands out to both Kacey and Leoben.

During the evacuation of New Caprica, Kara is reunited with Anders but runs back inside the detention center to retrieve Kacey. When the three arrive on Galactica, Kara begins to explain to Anders the circumstances of Kacey's birth. However, she is interrupted by a frantic fellow refugee, Julia Prynne, who thanks Kara for saving her daughter. Prynne explains that Kacey had been abducted by the Cylons during the occupation of New Caprica, and was feared dead. Kara is left shocked and speechless, realizing that Kacey's story is yet another one of Leoben's lies.

Shortly afterward, while Kara was still recovering from the psychological trauma inflicted by Leoben, Prynne brings Kacey to see her as the child had formed an attachment. Kara angrily rebuffs them both, but ultimately changes her mind and visits them in their temporary home on Galactica's hangar deck.
