Indonesian farmers, including the pictured farmer in Java, depend heavily on water buffalo to plough muddy paddy fields. In addition to such labour, their dairy products and meat are occasionally used but not on daily basis. The animals are deeply rooted in Indonesian culture and are depicted in many folksongs and tales.
