"Black Dog" is a song by British musician and poet Arlo Parks.[2] The song focuses on Mental Health as Arlo said "it's supposed to make people who are struggling feel less isolated and start a conversation surrounding the prevalence of mental health issues in today's world."[3] The song peaked at 50 on the Ultratop music charts.[4]
Reception
The song was placed on the Amazon Music's UK Rising chart within a week after release[5] and has been featured on multiple other charts since, including the Ultratop charts where "Black Dog" peaked at 50.[4] NME described the single as 'the years most devastating song' with strong links to Quarantine as a result of the Coronavirus and how her Arlo's Poetry came out in the slow, rhyming lyrics.[6] DIY explained the song as being directed at those having to deal with Lockdown and Mental Health during COVID-19.[7] When The Horn Blows reveals the meaning behind 'Black Dog' as being a metaphor for depression with the song being intended for people suffering with mental health as a result of isolation and encourages a conversation around the issue.[8] Euphoriazine, a music-based magazine reports the song as starting a conversation around how people feel about themselves especially with the advent of Social media making people question if they are a perfect person and their life.[9] This fits with Arlo's recent CALM ambassador role.[10] 'Black Dog' also featured in Redbrick[11] and New Yorks Office Magazine[12] which both described the song as exploring Human relationships.
