Nosa Afolabi (born April 20,1991), better known as Lasisi Elenu, is a Nigerian comedian, actor, compere and musician[1] from Offa, Kwara in Nigeria. One of Africa's most popular influencers, he is known for his skits with a 'wide mouth' disguise filter[2] during performances and on social media. Elenu recently featured in Netflix thriller, The Ghost and The Tout[3].

In March 2020, he was named one of Nigeria's Top 25 Under-30 Nigerian Superstars[4]. In 2018, he was nominated for The Future Awards Africa Prize for Comedy[5].

Early background and Education

Elenu, though born Nosa Afolabi in Kano State, northern Nigeria, hails from Offa in Kwara State. He is a graduate of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education from the University of Ilorin.[6]

Career

The comedian is one of the continent's most popular social media influencers with 75,000 followers on TikTok[7] and over 3.4 million followers on Instagram[8].

His skits focus on varying themes from law to cybercrime, the economy, insecurity[9] and philosophy, started out as a musician[10] before diverting to the business of comedy. His most recent project, Mama & Papa Godspower, is a series of 16-minute episodes focusing on a low-income household in Nigeria[11].

Filmography

Apart from 2018's The Ghost and the Tout[12] which was released on Netflix two years on, he has also starred in a number of Nollywood movies including Sylva, and Mr Razz Guy[13][14]

Controversy

Controversy struck in July 2020 when Elenu was warned by members of the Nigerian Bar Association, who claimed his jokes were misrepresenting the legal profession[15][16] and threatened to sue him.

In one interview, he also claimed that some of his female fans request for sexual favours from him[17].
