Images

[edit]

If you think references were complicated, wait til' I tell you about images. This is possibly the most esoteric set of policies on Wikipedia. The image in question is now on Commons (to be precise it is here which should mean that you do own the copyright of this image and have accepted to release under a free license. Since this is the image from Nagori's website, I have to assume that this is not the case and the image should be deleted because it violates the website's copyrights. In any case, I think an image of Nagori is not essential to the article: frankly the fact that he has bushy eyebrows does not really help in understanding his work. I'll let you read in detail the image use policy if you want to get finer details but in a nutshell:

  1. Assuming that you don't hold the copyright for Nagori's portrait, let me know and I'll have the image deleted.
  2. If you do hold the copyright, it would probably be best if you could get an OTRS ticket to confirm that you do and that you are hereby releasing the image under a free license.
  3. If the image is yours, of course, include it in the article. If you don't, my first advice is to just forget about a portrait. If you really think it's important, try to get in touch with the website to get a free image or try to find a free image somewhere else (probably difficult). Because of this tortuous policy, it will be considered that a) a non-free portrait is replaceable and b) not essential so it will not be allowed.
  4. As for images of his work, it should be acceptable to include one particularly important or particularly representative work. More would probably violate the spirit of minimal usage. And if you include one such image, it should be accompanied by a bit of commentary on the style. (e.g. socio-political theme)

One last note: if you hold the copyright for Nagori's portrait, you probably are closely associated to him. This raises questions of conflict of interest. In the case of painters, I'm not too concerned, especially since Nagori is both well-established and more or less retired as far as I understand. Still, make sure you stay objective. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:59, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
