The article does cite one undergraduate textbook originally published in 1967 whose author seems to have invented the term; it's not clear that the term has been substantially used outside that one book. In fact, a search in MathSciNet for "Kummer ring" in the Anywhere field turns up three articles, each of which uses the term in a sens)
