¡Viva la libertad, carajo!

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Super Dromaeosaurus (talk | contribs) at 17:23, 25 April 2024 (Super Dromaeosaurus moved page ¡Viva la Libertad carajo! to ¡Viva la libertad, carajo!: "libertad" has no reason for being capitalized, and I see most media outlets putting the comma. I speak Spanish by the way). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

"¡Viva la Libertad, carajo!", sometimes shortened to ¡VLLC!,[1] is a catchphrase and campaign rallying cry associated mostly with Javier Milei the current president of Argentina, and an outspoken libertarian and self-described anarcho-capitalist.[2] The phrase is a Spanish language term that translates into English as, "Long Live Fucking Freedom!", "Long Live Freedom, Damn It!",[3] or "Long Live Freedom, goddamnit!"[4]

Origin and use

Javier Milei, President of Argentina, is most closely associated with the phrase, and for his use of the phrase both during speeches and especially at the end of most speeches delivered.

The term ¡Viva la Libertad carajo! (lit.'Long Live Fucking Freedom!') is a Spanish catchphrase initially popularized by political candidate Javier Milei[5][6] first in his parliamentary run in 2021[7] and then again in his run up to election in late 2023 as president of Argentina.[8][9]

Milei is known for his political antics including wielding chainsaws as props at political rallies and events, colorful black-and-yellow flags associated with anarcho-capitalism,[10] and for his colorful use of language such as "¡Viva la Libertad carajo!",[11][12][13][14][15] most often used as a concluding phrase to many speeches delivered by Milei.[16][17][18][19]
