Starting April 18 2024, floods hit Kenya, effecting people in 21 of the 47 counties.[1] The capital city of Nairobi was particularly affected.[2] The Nairobi River and the Athi River have both burst their banks displacing 40,000 people.[3] Over 110,000 people are affected.[4][5] At least 38 people have been reported killed.[6][1][5] Additional rainfal was expected in 23-24 April which likely worsened the recovery efforts.[1]

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid also reported at least 960 livestock and 24000 acres of farmland were flooded.[7] The flooding was strengthened in part due to El Nino.[8]
