Andrey Nikolayevich Mordvichev (Russian: Андрей Николаевич Мордвичев; born 14 January 1976[1]) is a Russian lieutenant general who commands the 8th General Army of the Southern Military District.
He was deployed in 2022 to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where Ukrainian sources claimed he was killed[2][3][4][5] in an airstrike on an airfield in Chornobayivka.[2][6] According to the Ukrainians, he would be Russia's fifth general officer to be killed in the invasion and the most highly ranked casualty of the war so far.[7][6]
Russian sources have not confirmed his death.[8][9] On 28 March, Russian television broadcast images that allegedly showed Ramzan Kadyrov meeting Mordvichev in Mariupol.[10][11]
