George C.W. Gatch (born December 21,1962) is an American investment manager and businessman . He is the chief executive officer (CEO) of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, serving since 2019. Today, J.P. Morgan Asset Management operates in over 25 countries with 8,000 people, with a clear mission of becoming the most trusted asset manager and helping clients solve their most complex investment needs. The business manages over $3 trillion in assets across equities, fixed income, liquidity, alternatives, and multi-asset solutions on behalf of institutional, sovereign and retail clients globally. He is Chair of the Asset Management Operating Committee and serves on the Asset and Wealth Management Committee, which oversees $5 trillion in assets, chaired by Mary Callahan Erdoes.

With the firm since 1986, George has held a number of senior roles across J.P. Morgan Asset Management including building out the mutual fund business globally, overseeing the Global Funds and Institutional client businesses , and running the firm's mutual fund joint venture in Japan, DKB Morgan. Prior to serving in his current role as the chief executive officer of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, he was the chief executive officer of the Global Funds division. His expertise and dedication to the business has helped build one of the world's leading asset managers.

Early Life and Education

George Gatch was born on December 21, 1962 in New Haven, CT, to Milton McCormick Gatch and Ione Georganna White Gatch. His father, Milton, was an Episcopal minister, dean professor and librarian, and his mother, Ione, was an activist and educator, serving as a director and the Dean of College Life at Barnard College. George was raised in Columbia, MO and New York City, and spent much of his time in Wellfleet, MA, the family's home base. He attended the New Lincoln School for his early education and then completed his bachelor's degree at the Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in Political Science.

Career

Gatch started his career at J.P. Morgan, originally in global exposure management. He went on to hold a number of roles across J.P. Morgan Asset Management. He launched the Global Funds' U.S. mutual fund complex in 2005, which he led for a decade, doubling its market share and growing it to one of the top fund families in the nation. Gatch also served as President and CEO of Japan's DKB Morgan, a mutual fund joint venture between J.P. Morgan and Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank. Prior to his time in Japan, he established J.P. Morgan Asset Management's sub-advisory and institutional mutual funds businesses.

George is a member of the board of directors of New York's Mohonk Preserve, New York's largest land trust. He also currently serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Investment Company Institute (served as Chair from 2018 to 2021), as he is passionate about the rights of shareholders globally. George is focused on creating a more diverse and equitable business. He is the Executive Sponsor and co-founder of J.P. Morgan's Men as Ambassadors Program which is a community of male senior leaders that serve as advocates for the development and advancement of women within the firm. He is also the Executive Sponsor of the Asset & Wealth Management Black Leadership Forum and chairs the Black Managing Director Roundtable in Asset Management.

Personal Life

George Gatch married Erica Marie Fite in 2019 and was previously married to Stephanie Johnson. He has two daughters and three sons. George is an avid outdoorsman. His passions include tennis, mountain biking, mountain climbing and hiking. Every year, for the past 35 years, he completes a mountaineering trip with his close friends, who together have ventured to the Sawtooth Mountains, the Cascades, the High Sierras, remote parks of Alaska, the Canyonlands, the San Juan mountains, Glen Canyon, the Grand Teton, and St. Elias National Park, to name a few. Most recently, he completed the GR20 (Grande Randonnée, or "great hike"), a 180 km (112 mi) trail, along the spine of Corsica's center, which is widely considered the toughest trail in Europe. George is also an avid wine collector, and when not adventuring outdoors, can be found cooking with his family and friends, and enjoying a rare wine. He currently resides in New York City and spends his leisure time upstate in the Shanangunk Mountains in the Hudson Valley.
