Ejikeme Patrick Nwosu is a Nigerian inventor and scientist. He was awarded many patents for his inventions by the Nigerian government, including for converting urine into flammable gasses and for developing the Ezeugo Flask.[1][2][3] And also for producing hydrogen from a reactor.[4] In a speech given by the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, on behalf of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, Nwosu was mentioned alongside five other inventors in Nigeria as notable.[5]

Early life and education

Ejikeme Nwosu was born on February 4, 1983 in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria.[1] He earned a bachelor's degree in pure and industrial chemistry from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. He also has a master's degree in organic chemistry from the University of Ibadan.[2]

Inventions

Nwosu invented many (now patented) devices, including the Fire Retardant Paint, which when used to paint objects would prevent fire from burning them. He also invented a separation apparatus that successfully purifies a mixture of miscible solute, solvent, and colloid by-products. Nwosu was granted patents by the Nigerian government for these two inventions.[6] Nwosu also isolated ammonia from human urine.[3][7][8] He also invented the Ticlob-Lumos Method and Patrium Flask Reactor.[9]

In 2021, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced that it had partnered with Ejikeme’s company, Lumos Laboratories Nigeria Limited to establish a waste management system in which biogas will be produced from biodegradable wastes and urine for the purpose of generating electricity and cooking gas in correctional centers across the country.[10] In 2022, Nwosu partnered with Greg Vezina, founder of Hydrofuel Canada Inc., to produce green hydrogen, ammonia, fertilizer, and electricity, all from human and animal wastes.[11] Nwosu also invented urine-based fertilizer. In order to create the urine-based fertilizer, he first created a prototype urine-diverting toilet that collected urine from human users.

On November 23, 2022, the Federal Government of Nigeria awarded him another patent for this invention. Nwosu envisaged a future in which people would be paid for passing urine in conveniences because of the use of the urine for producing the fertilizer which Nwosu had invented.[12] Nwosu explored a special theory of inorganic chemical reactions which abstracts of the processes were published by the American Chemical Society Book of Abstracts in 2005.[10] In 2011, he published a paper entitled “Special theory of toxicity: Toxic properties of electron discovered”. According to his findings explained in the paper, single electrons and lone pairs are the major sources of toxicity in elements and compounds.[13] In March 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu granted another patent to Nwosu for the invention of flask reactor which produces hydrogen gas from urine and waste water.[4]
