Fanta cake

Fanta cake or Fantakuchen[1] is a cake that originated in Germany, made with a sponge base. The key ingredient of the sponge base is Fanta or sparkling mineral water; thus, the cake base becomes fluffier than usual sponge-based cakes.[2] The top can be either a simple lemon glaze or a creamy layer made of heavy sour cream, whipped cream, sugar and canned mandarins. Different variants of the cake use either a light sponge or one having a darker colour achieved through the use of cocoa, while the topping can be made using quark.[3] The traditional measurement is in cups, which is uncommon as it originates from Germany. Fantakuchen is a cake mainly served at birthday parties or bake sales.[4]
