Background

The Georgia Guidestones were a monument in Elbert County, Georgia, which were erected in 1980 by a pseudonymous individual known as “Robert C. Christian". The monument served as a guide for humanity in the event of an apocalyptic event leading to the collapse of civilization. It has eight different languages incribed on the five stones, documenting what it saw as a right path for future humans.

Investigation

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office is investigating the bombing, with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.[5] On the evening of the bombing, the GBI released a video showing both the explosion, and a vehicle of interest leaving the scene shortly before.[6]

As of July 6, 2022, no arrests were made.[7]

Aftermath of the bombing

One of the Guidestones was destroyed. However, four remained intact and the capstone was heavily damaged.[8] The remaining Guidestones were demolished later that day with a backhoe.[9][10]
