Give It A Name, sometimes abbreviated to GIAN, is an annual British emo music festival, held on or around the May Day Bank Holiday. The first festival took place on May 2 2005 at Alexandra Palace, North London. In 2006, Give It A Name became a paired, two day festival, taking place at the MEN Arena, Manchester, and Earls Court, London. 2007 will see the festival even more extended, this year to three days and five different locations. Give It A Name tends to feature post hardcore, emo and pop punk bands.

Interesting events

  • On Sunday 30th April 2006 at one of the Earls Court GIAN dates, Taking Back Sunday vocalist Adam Lazzara accidentally hit bassist Matt Rubano in the face with a microphone, which he was spinning around. Matt suffered mild concussion, and received an injury to his head which required many stitches. He went off stage for about five minutes then came back on to finish their set. Incidentally, during the band's last song a day earlier at the MEN arena, the pedal to the bass drum broke and the band had to stall whilst a replacement was found.
  • At Give It A Name 2005, the band Fightstar got a mixed reception of cheers and boos (and even a few shoes thrown at the stage), but played on regardless.
  • At Give It A Name 2006, wiL Francis from Aiden joined Goldfinger on stage to sing the song "Open Your Eyes".
