Hyrox
HYROX is a fitness competition combining 8km of running and eight functional workout stations.[1]
History
Hyrox was founded by Moritz Fürste and Christian Toetzke 2017 and first introduced in Hamburg, Germany. According to Fürste, the original brief was “to create an event that is a 200,000-euro (about $214,000) production that looks like a 2,000,000-euro ($2,144,000) production”.[2] It has since expanded worldwide.[3] A network of Hyrox-affiliated gyms has also been established.[4]
Format
Every competition starts with a 1 km run, followed by one functional movement, and these two elements are repeated eight times.[5] To date, the 8 functional movements are SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jump, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls in this respective order.[6]
