Jonah Wheeler (born March 1, 2003) is an American politician and advocate currently serving as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Hillsborough County District 33, which encompasses Peterborough and Sharon, for the Democratic Party. Wheeler assumed office on December 7, 2022,[1][2][3] and is among the youngest state legislators in the United States.
Early life and education
Wheeler was born on March 1, 2003, in Peterborough, New Hampshire. He was raised by a working poor single mother, and recalls living in a hippie commune called Hippie Hollow in the woods of New Ipswich as a child.[4] Wheeler graduated from ConVal Regional High School in 2021, and proceeded to do a lot of work building bridges between educators and his community.[5][6]
Politics
Wheeler began his career in municipal politics as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Adjustments in Peterborough, New Hampshire, a position he continues to hold until 2025.[7] On November 8, 2022, Wheeler was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representative alongside party ally and incumbent, Peter Leishman, after defeating incumbent Ivy Vann in the September Democratic primary election. He assumed office on December 7, 2022.
