In Greek mythology, Otrera[pronunciation?] (Greek: Οτρηρη Otrērē) was a Queen of the Amazons; the daughter of Eurus (the east wind), consort of Ares and mother of Hippolyta, Antiope, Melanippe, and Penthesilea.[1][2]

Mythology

Otrera is sometimes considered the mythological founder of the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus,[3] which was closely connected with Amazons.[4] She is also sometimes considered the founder of the Amazon nation, though many myths place the first Amazons much earlier.

She was slain by the hero Bellerophon.

In Pop Culture

Otrera appears in The Son of Neptune, by Rick Riordan; where she has sided with the main antagonist, Gaia.
