The character of God has appeared in the following media:

Literature

  • God appears briefly in Good Omens, as a faceless entity who, while strict, was willing to compromise.
  • God appears in The Old Testament.
  • God appears in The New Testament.
  • God appears in the Koran.

Comic Books

Film

  • In Bruce Almighty and its sequel Evan Almighty the character of God is portrayed by Morgan Freeman as a kindly black man.
  • In Time Bandits the character of God is portrayed by Ralph Richardson as an upper class Englishman. (He is actually referred to as The Supreme Being by large but named God twice) but he doesn't appear 'in human form' until the very end of the movie.
  • In Dogma (film) the character of God was portrayed as a homeless man and as a woman portrayed by Alanis Morissette who's voice is too holy to hear without dying.
  • In Oh, God! the character of God is portrayed by George Burns as a casually dressed old man.

Television

  • In the short lived NBC animated sitcom God, The Devil & Bob God is voiced by James Garner and portrayed as a wise but casually dressed old man.
  • In the long-running animated sitcom, The Simpsons, God is depicted as a fairly large man, wearing robes and with five fingers, which is considered unusual in the Simpsons' universe (a reference to real-life humans creating the show).
