The Thomas Fire is a current wildfire burning in the hills outside of the southern California cities of Ventura and Santa Paula. It has burned approximately 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) and resulted in one death.[1][2] Officials blame strong winds for the fire's sudden explosion in size after starting as a small brush fire earlier in the evening.[3]
