Oleksandr Lomako (Lomako Oleksandr Anatoliyovych, born 27 November 1984^[1]) is a secretary of the Chernihiv City Council of the 8th convocation, acted as a mayor of Chernihiv since 1 Ferbuary 2023.^[2] Leader of the UDAR party in Chernihiv Oblast.

Biography[edit]

Lomako was born in Chernihiv Oblast.

Education[edit]

Lomako graduated from the Ukrainian School of Political Studies in 2013. In 2018, he received a master's degree in public management and administration at the Chernihiv National University of Technology.

Career[edit]

Lomako was a private entrepreneur from 2009 to 2010. Then, he became an editor-in-chief of the private regional TV channel "Dytynets". From 2010 to 2015, he was the director of "Teleradiocampania LIGA" LLC.

Political activity[edit]

Lomako has started public activities while studying at the Chernihiv State Pedagogical University. He has articipated in the public movements which later became the driving force of the Orange Revolution.

Lomako has suffered from repressions during both Kuchma and Yanukovych presidencies. He has been facing conviction under "suspicion of terrorism". Explosives and counterfeit money were supposely found in his apartment. Afterwards the Ukraine police leadership issued a public apology and admitted responsibility for setting up and organizing political repressions.

In 2005, Lomako became one of the co-founders of the public network "OPORA". He was the chairman of the board of the organization and the head of election programs, organizing nationwide monitoring of compliance with democratic standards in local and national elections to the Verkhovna Rada in 2006 and 2007.

Lomako took an active part both in the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity.

Chernihiv[edit]

Deputy Mayor of Chernihiv(2015-2020)[edit]

In 2015, he became the deputy mayor of Chernihiv for strategic development of the city. He took care of the areas of education, medicine, culture, youth and sports, economy, finance, tourism, provision of administrative services, public relations, etc.

In the 2020 local elections, he led the election campaign of the "Native House" party in the Chernihiv region, was number two on the party's list for the Chernihiv City Council. In November 2020, he was elected secretary of the council.

Secretary of the Chernihiv city council(2020-2023)[edit]

In the local elections of 2020, the "Native House" party showed one of the highest results in Ukraine, and the mayor Atroshenko was re-elected with the third result in Ukraine among city mayors. On July 31, 2021, the Homeland Party and UDAR parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and joint participation in the next parliamentary elections in Chernihiv. On November 3, 2021, Oleksandr Lomako headed the regional organization of the UDAR Vitaliy Klitschka party in Chernihiv Oblast.^[3]

From 2015 to 2020 Lomako was acting as a deputy mayor of Chernihiv for the activities of the council's executive bodies, acting the first deputy of the Chernihiv city mayor, a member of the executive committee of the Chernihiv City Council of the VII convocation.

From November 20, 2020 to and including — secretary of the Chernihiv City Council of the VIII convocation[4], member of the executive committee of the Chernihiv City Council of the VIII convocation.

Mayor of Chernihiv(2023-)[edit]

From 1 February 2023 Lomako is the acting mayor of Chernihiv.

In September 2023, the SBU searched Lomako's home. The basis for the search was the decision of the Kyiv Court.
