Against the Modern World: Traditionalism and the Secret Intellectual History of the Twentieth Century (2004) is a book by British historian Mark Sedgwick.

Content

Sedgwick describes the book as being “a biography of René Guénon and a history of the Traditionalist movement that he founded”[1]

Reception

A reviewer for Journal of World History wrote: "Overall, Sedgwick contributes an introduction and overview of an otherwise little-known, but important, moment in modern intellectual history".[2]

Historian Peter Staudenmaier called the book "an informative but insufficiently critical survey of Guénon’s and Evola’s thought".[3]

President of the Julius Evola foundation Gianfranco de Turris called the book "a rather superficial, somewhat rambuncious work to the study of international traditionalism, generally not based on the reading of the original texts and therfore full of equivocal approximations and errors".[4]
