John R. Lane

John R. Lane was part of the famed Williams “Art Mafia” — a group of leaders in the museum industry who were all undergraduates at Williams College during the 1960s and 1970s. Lane’s career in the art world included positions at the Brooklyn Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and finally the Dallas Museum of Art.[1]

Lane was born in Idaho and an alumnus of the Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Williams College and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, received a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Harvard University. He served in Vietnam as a lieutenant in the Navy. His father is owner of Pete Lane's Mountain Sports, a Sun Valley, Idaho ski store. His great-grandfather, Gerrit J. Diekema, was a United States Representative from Holland. Michigan, and U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands.[2]
