:No, external link spamming is defined in [[WP:SPAM]] as spam. They are fresh from a 30-day block for external link spamming. They cruise news and post links, but don't edit, or if they do edit, it is token meaningless edits to try to look like edits but without really improving anything. They just want to deflect the charge of external link spamming. Ironically, I'm interested and enjoy most of the stuff that gets posted by this user. But that does not change the fact that spam is spam is spam. Even when I agree with its gist most of the time.

Not so fast....

99.181.147.96 contributes some very relevant, reliable sources, just not in the right place. 99, when you add sources, put them in the part of the text to which they are relevant (like you did with the Ohio article in hydraulic fracturing), and do a copy, paste, and edit of a reference tag. In other words, use the formatting needed for that type of source. I typically copy and paste another tag on the page, then fill it in with the info for my source. Also, if you don't have time, mention the sources on the article's talk page for someone else to review...but try to do most of the work yourself. Keep up the good work.Smm201`0 (talk) 13:02, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, external link spamming is defined in WP:SPAM as spam. This particular user is a well known Michigan sock. See also, this list of IPs used by this sock.
If this user wants to do GOOD work, as I have told them before, they should just pick the one or two best news stories each night, study them, and actually build the content of our relevant articles with meaningful text. Slow down, and edit . Please stop external link spamming because that is NOT "good work". NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 16:55, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
