Contributing

With these references at hand, we hope you find it easier to contribute to Wikipedia. Here's a brief synopsis of some ways you can:

• We obviously wouldn't have an encyclopedia without articles. This page shows how you can help them grow.

• Removing vandalism and keeping the integrity of articles intact is a great way of contributing. More information on how to do so can be found here.

• Fixing typos, correcting poor grammar and repairing broken links are just some examples of useful, behind the scenes contributions. Even just making things look nice makes using Wikipedia more pleasant for everybody.

• If you like working with images, you might be interested in the Graphic Lab. Similarly, this page shows you how to work with images in Wikipedia articles.

• This page lists the many types of tasks you can do to maintain Wikipedia.

• There are numerous WikiProjects that aim to provide coordination and collaboration on particular subjects. From this list, you can join a project and contribute within an area that interests you.

Request for usurpation

Hello, Ndiver. A request has been made at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations to usurp, or "take over", your username because another user would like to use it to edit. The changing username guideline allows a username that is not being actively used to be usurped if the user is given an opportunity to object and does not do so.

If you have an email set in your preferences, you should be getting an email from a bureaucrat or changing username clerk explaining how to consent or object to this process.

If you do not object to being renamed to a new username in order for another user to use the name you currently have, please log in and post a reply here saying so (you may also tell us what username you would like to be renamed to, or we will provide you with a generic one).

If you do nothing: the request may be filled shortly, and your account will be moved to a generic username. You may request that it be moved to a new username of your choice at any time.

If you object to being renamed: please log in and make an edit to this page clearly stating that you object to usurpation. Any objection on your part will prevent usurpation.

Please note that even if your current username is usurped, you can still edit and your data will not be lost; your preferences, watchlist, and other user settings will be transferred to a new username.

Hi,

i made this usurpation request as i'm using the name ndiver since 2005 on several domains of Wikimedia, especially Wikipedia French and Wikispecies, where i contribute to update the lists of species where i'm competent due to my work. I would like to be able to use the same username through the Unified Account on all these domains for more simplicity, for login problems and for logic.

I saw that you did not made any edit on Wikipedia since already 2 years are thus inactive, instead of me.

To release the username ndiver, as you are not using it, for any other would be really well-meaning.

(Third-party opinion) Ndiver, I'm going to persuade you. When your username is usurped, your new username will be just the same one, but with the following text displayed next to it: (usurped). It would be really nice to give a leeway to a more notable editor who wants to be known by his more widely used name on all Wikimedia projects. When your username is usurped, just get used to having "usurped" in parenthesises [sic] in your username and you'll be alright. Can you please try? Hill Crest's WikiLaser (Boom.)
