Refute

I think that you used the word refute in a wrong sense. The meaning of refute is "to prove (something) to be false or incorrect".

What you wanted to say is:

Slovak editors [...] refute what I was taught at school and I'm refuting what they were taught at school

or

Slovak editors [...] defend what they were taught at school and I'm defending what I was taught at school
