January 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ternera. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Draft talk:John's Crazy Socks have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Ternera (talk) 20:59, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Draft talk:John Cronin (entrepreneur). While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Welcome![edit]

Hello, Mxcronin, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Guidance[edit]

Hi Mxcronin, in response to your query at WT:Sockpuppet investigations/Mxcronin regarding continuing to edit the draft, the draft is now deleted since it was created by someone working for an editor who was blocked some time ago for Undisclosed paid editing and Sockpuppetry. I understand you hired them not knowing the history or Wikipedia's policies. To be clear, paid editing is allowed but it has to be disclosed and the editor is required (just like any other) to abide by all the other policies and guidelines and this editor/group of editors violated several. From what I understand John is a relative and the two of you have a business so what you need to do immediately is to disclose your WP:COI on your User page (User:Mxcronin) by placing this template: {{UserboxCOI|John Cronin (entrepreneur)|John's Crazy Socks}} (include the curly brackets).

As for an article, you can create a new draft following the Articles for creation process but I suggest reading Your first article and familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's notability guidelines. I did take a look at the draft about John a while back and based on the sources provided, I am not sure it would pass notability because most of the sources were interviews/based on what you and John say which is considered mostly a primary source and not independent even if published by a reputable source. However, there could be other sources available. The best sources have little to no input by those affiliated with the subject and contains the author's own research, analysis, etc. (see secondary source). Please also be aware the case is still open so I strongly suggest waiting until it is closed which could take some time. S0091 (talk) 15:25, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, the case is now closed so you can start a new draft. I suggest using the Visual Editor rather than Source and see WP:INTREFVE for how to add sources. The Automatic function works for most URLs. Given the horrible experience you have had, I am happy to take a look/provide guidance once you get started (for free! which what Wikipedia editors do). Just click the "talk" link by my signature to leave me message on my talk page or you can ping me here (click Reply then select my user name under the person icon).
