I'd like to start a WikiProject to better organize development of articles related to North Dakota. I have started out by listing several areas that could use expansion. At this point, we need a few more interested people to sign on [1] before we can move towards becoming a full WikiProject.

This is a working document meant to lay out the scope and focus areas of the WikiProject. Feel free to edit this proposal as you see fit.

Moving towards a WikiProject

Laying down scope and goals

In following Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices, we should lay out the general scope and goals of the project.

Project:

WikiProject North Dakota

Goal:

To provide complete coverage om subjects peculiarly North Dakotan.

Scope:

People, places, and things resident or native to North Dakota.

NOT:

People, places, and things not resident or native to North Dakota.

Finding interested Wikipedians

We'll need a few interested people to get a project started. Hopefully as the project progresses it will tend to get more popular. We'll need ideas to encourage public involvement in the campaign. I'd encourage North Dakotans to also join Category:Wikipedians in North Dakota so we can be in better contact with each other.

Cities

Bismarck needs quite a bit of development. MatthewUND has done excellent work with things around Fargo and Grand Forks. Minot is getting pretty big, perhaps it's time to start splitting it into smaller pieces.

Education

The state's education system is significant in understanding the state's current situation. There is currently an ongoing project on University of North Dakota. All post-secondary schools in the state have articles now, but most of them need expansion.

There is now a listing of some of the public school districts in North Dakota - this can be expanded. Perhaps later on there can be a treatment of the ongoing consolidation and equalization issues, and articles on the major Class A and B high schools in the state.

Geography

There needs to be development of the major geographic landforms in the state: the North Dakota Badlands, the Missouri Plateau, the Turtle Mountains, and the Red River Valley.

Devil's Lake needs significant expansion, through historical research and photography.

History

History of North Dakota is incomplete, and articles on specific events in North Dakota history are few. Major development needed.

People

This is perhaps the weakest area of all. A starting point would be completing the List of Governors of North Dakota and U.S. Congressional Delegations from North Dakota. Development is also needed of prominent current officials, right down to state legislators. Equally important but somewhat more difficult would be development of other significant North Dakotans. What that constitutes needs to be decided.

Need articles:

Need expansion:

Culture

Things like Music of North Dakota and Cuisine of North Dakota.

Interested Wikipedians

I would be very interested in helping out with any aspect of the project you would like me to. I am not overly familiar with the western part of the state, but I would be willing to work on Fargo articles or whatever. I have done almost all that I can think of doing with Grand Forks and UND, but I suppose there is always something else to do.
I am pretty familiar with the western part of the state. So, I will let our differences slide and I will join you on your crusade to educate the world of the greatness of our state of North Dakota. No longer will we have to quietly by as the ignorant people ask us if Mount Rushmore is in North Dakota. No! We shall let them know of our true monuments like Salem Sue and the Jamestown buffalo!
