For the PlayStation 2 video game series by the same name, see .hack//G.U. (video games).

.hack//G.U. (or .hack Conglomerate, as opposed to its predecessor, Project .hack) is a multimedia franchise created as a sequel to the .hack franchise. The series encompasses three games for the PlayStation 2 console, an anime series, prose, and manga. The sequel series starts off in the year 2017, seven years after the events of .hack. In the seven years that have passed, not only has Altimit OS been replaced by Altimit Mine OS, but The World has become The World R:2. The game has been overrun by player killers and lawlessness abounds.

Main storylines

  • .hack//Roots, an anime series which follows Haseo and his joining (and subsequent exploits with) the Twilight Brigade guild. It also shows his rise to power and how he becomes known as "The Terror of Death". Towards the end of the series we see the start of .hack.//G.U.
  • .hack//G.U., a series of three video games (Vol. 1 Rebirth, Vol. 2 Reminisce, and Vol. 3 Redemption) that focus on Haseo's chase of Tri-Edge, his eventual involvement with Project G.U, and the mysterious AIDA who plague The World R:2. This latest series has proven greatly successful to the .hack franchise, with the recent release of .hack//G.U. Vol 3 in Japan selling over 100,000 copies in one day and becoming the number one game in Japan.
  • .hack//CELL, a novel which involves a female Edge Punisher called Midori being approached by Haseo, "The Terror of Death," for information regarding Tri-Edge.
  • .hack//G.U.+, a non-canon manga adaptation of the three .hack//G.U. video games.
  • .hack//4koma, a manga series which throws a little humor into both the .hack and .hack//G.U. franchises alike.
  • .hack//GnU, a humorous manga series about a male Blade Brandier called Reid and the seventh division of the Moon Tree guild.
  • .hack//Alcor, a manga series that focuses on a girl called Nanase, who appears to be quite fond of Silabus, as well as Alkaid during her days as emperor of the Demon Palace.
  • Online Jack, a set on anime clips in the news section of the .hack//G.U. games' fake internet. It tells the "real world" story of the mysterious "Doll Syndrome".
