Season Summary

Marquette sent out long-time coach Al McGuire in style by north Carolina, 67-59, in the NCAA tournament championship game. Earlier in the season, McGuire surprised the college hoops world by announcing his retirement to go into private business. Guard Butch Lee, the tournament’s most outstanding player, and forward Bo Ellis were the stars of a team that reflected the street-wise toughness of its coach.
