The 1988 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament was the culmination of the 1987–88 season in men's ice hockey for teams in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Lake Superior State Lakers defeated the St. Lawrence Saints 4-3 in overtime in the championship game, held in Lake Placid, New York on April 2.
Tournament Bracket
1988 was the first year the tournament expanded to include twelve teams. Teams were divided into two regions, East and West, with the top two seeds in each region receiving a bye into the quarterfinals. First round and quarterfinals were contested in a two-game, total goals format with games held at the campus of the higher seed. Semifinals and final were single game format.
