The 2023 Vuelta a España is a three-week men's cycling race taking place in Spain between 26 August and 17 September 2023. It is the 78th edition of the Vuelta a España. The race starts in Barcelona,[1] and it also goes through parts of Andorra and France.[2]

Teams

22 teams are scheduled to take part in the race. All 18 UCI WorldTeams have been automatically invited. They will be joined by 4 UCI ProTeams - the two highest placed UCI ProTeams in 2022 (Lotto–Dstny and Team TotalEnergies), along with Burgos BH and Caja Rural–Seguros RGA who were selected by the organisers.[3] The teams were announced on 8 March 2023.[3][4]

Pre race favorites

The main pre race favorites to win the general classification are; the 2023 Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard, 2022 Vuelta a España winner Remco Evenepoel, as well as 2023 Giro d'Italia winner Primož Roglič.[8] Juan Ayuso, Geraint Thomas, and Enric Mas were also mentioned as competitors for a podium finish.[9] Outside contenders included; Mikel Landa, Eddie Dunbar and Aleksandr Vlasov.[10]

The pre-race favorites for the sprinters to win the points classification are Kaden Groves and Bryan Coquard.[11]

Alerting users

  • {{alert/first}} ({{Contentious topics/alert/first}}) is used, on a user's talk page, to "alert", or draw a user's attention, to the contentious topics system if they have never received such an alert before. In this case, this template must be used for the notification.
  • {{alert}} ({{Contentious topics/alert}}) is used, on a user's talk page, to "alert", or draw a user's attention, to the fact that a specific topic is a contentious topic. It may only be used if the user has previously received any contentious topic alert, and it can be replaced by a custom message that conveys the contentious topic designation.
  • {{alert/DS}} ({{Contentious topics/alert/DS}}) is used to inform editors that the old "discretionary sanctions" system has been replaced by the contentious topics system, and that a specific topic is a contentious topic.
  • {{Contentious topics/aware}} is used to register oneself as already aware that a specific topic is a contentious topic.
