Formed at the Kure Naval District, the 3rd Kure SNLF participated in the invasion of Tulagai and the battles of Tulagi and Gavutu–Tanambogo and Milne Bay.[1]

Commander Masaaki Suzuki, led the 3rd Kure SNLF reinforcements at Milne Bay on 29 August 1942.
