On 3 January 2021, jihadist insurgents took hostages at a wedding in a village in Mopti Region, central Mali.[1] The Islamists ordered the hostages to separate by gender.[1][2][3] An airstrike then killed at least 20 people.[1][2][3] The French Armed Forces said they carried out an airstrike in the area on that day, killing Islamist militants.[2][3]
