The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) is an electoral alliance of various political parties based in Pakistan. It was formed in the wake of 2018 Pakistani general election.

One of the aims of this alliance is to defeat the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the Sindh province, which is considered a stronghold of the PPP. The alliance includes the Pakistan Muslim League (Functional), a party which emerged as the runner up to the PPP in the 2013 provincial elections in interior Sindh and garnered 12% of the vote in the province by itself. The alliance has been seen as a major challenger to the PPP in the 2018 elections.[2]

Composition

The following individuals and political parties are part of the GDA:[3]

General election 2018

For the 2018 Pakistani general election, the GDA joined hands with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf by forming seat adjustments in more than ten seats with the aim of defeating the PPP. As a result of the election, the GDA won 13 seats in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, 2 seats in the National Assembly and garnered almost 15% of the vote in Sindh.[6][7]
