Jonathan D. Zlotnik (born May 7, 1990) is an American state legislator serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since January, 2013.[1] He is a Gardner resident and a member of the Democratic Party.[2]
Life and career
Zlotnik's parents are Michael and MaryAnn Zlotnik.[3] He attended Gardner High School[4] in his hometown[5] of Gardner and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2012, with a bachelor's degree in History.[6] His thesis was on the Polish independence struggle through the 19th and early 20th century.[7]
In the state legislature election, Zlotnik beat his Republican opponent (Richard M. Bastien) by 500 votes. He had launched his campaign while still in senior year of college, headquartering it in his dorm room at Sheehy Hall.[8] He deferred prior plans to study law at Suffolk University and join the Navy in order to run.[5][9] Up until his election he had not held public office, although he had worked as a summer aide in 2007 and 2008 for former Democratic state representative Robert Rice.[10][9]
He serves on the state's Joint Committee on Education.[11] While announcing his candidacy for a fourth term in 2018, Zlotnik claimed to have a continuing "platform of bipartisanship and cooperative problem-solving".[12]
He endorsed Ed Markey in the Democratic primary for the 2020 Senate election in Massachusetts.[13]
