It was the terminus of the line until it was extended to Haswell in April 1837. An accident occurred on 19 August 1889 when a train derailed at a curve, injuring 101 passengers. The curve was later removed. The first station closed in 1894 and was resited 100 yards to the west.[1]

Only the footbridge remains.[3]
