Murat Aygün is a Dutch-Turkish kickboxer, who has been professionally competing since 2014. He is the former WFL Heavyweight champion and the 2018 WFL Heavyweight tournament winner. In May of 2020, he signed a multi fight, two year deal with ONE Championship. Aygün also previously fought in SUPERKOMBAT.[1]

As of January 2021, he is the #9 ranked heavyweight according to Combat Press.[2] He was ranked as a top ten heavyweight by Combat Press between March 2019,[3] and December 2019.[4]

Kickboxing career

Early career

Murat fought for the HEAT Kick Heavyweight title during HEAT 38, with his opponent being Prince Ali. He won the fight by a third round TKO.[5]

Aygün won a decision victory over Tarik Khbabez, during Mix Fight Gala 20, after an extra fourth round was fought.[6]

Murat fought under the SUPERKOMBAT banner in 2016, when he faced Sebastian Cozmâncă. The fight went into an extra round, where Aygün won a decision.[7]

Murat fought Errol Zimmerman during the WFL - Champion vs. Champion event. Aygün won a decision after the five round fight.[8]

In 2018 Aygün participated in the WFL: Final 8 heavyweight tournament. In the quarter finals he defeated Fabio Kwasi by decision, Sam Tevette in the semi finals by decision, and won the tournament with a decision win over Nordine Mahieddine.[9] He earned a reporter €100 000 for winning the tournament.[10]

After winning the WFL tournament, Murat entered the Mix Fight four man tournament, during Mix Fight 27.[11] He suffered his first professional loss to James McSweeney by TKO, after the ringside doctor stopped the fight in the second round due to a cut.[12]

Aygün won a unanimous decision over Mohamed El Bouchaibi during Enfusion 95.[13]

He was scheduled to fight Levi Rigters during Enfusion 96 for the Super Heavyweight title,[14] but the fight fell through due to a disagreement between Rigters and Enfusion co-promoter Ringfight Promotions.[15]

ONE Championship

On June 1, 2020 it was revealed that Aygün had signed with ONE Championship.[16] He is scheduled to fight Roman Kryklia for the ONE Kickboxing Light Heavyweight Championship during ONE Championship: Big Bang.[17] The fight was later cancelled, as one of Kryklia's coaches tested positive for COVID-19.[18] Aygun was rescheduled to fight Anderson Silva.[19] Aygun went on to defeat Silva by unanimous decision.[20]
