Lalengmawia (born 17 October 2000), commonly known as Apuia, is an Indian footballer who plays as a midfielder for NorthEast United in the Indian Super League. He is the youngest captain in the history of the Indian Super League at 20 years and 44 days.

Early life

Lalengmawia belongs to Indian state of Mizoram. His father works as butcher.[1][2] He started playing football at the age of 6.[2] He represented his school in Subroto Cup.[1]

Club career

Apuia started his club career with the developmental club Indian Arrows, making two appearances in their 2017–18 season. In 2019, he was signed by the Indian Super League club NorthEast United.

On 30 November 2020, Apuia captained the NorthEast United side for the first time in their 1–1 away draw against Goa.[3] It made him the youngest captain in the history of the Indian Super League at 20 years and 44 days. Apuia even went on to be awarded Hero of the Match.[4]
