The 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup will be the fifth edition of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup (previously the AFC U-23 Championship before rebranding from 2021),[1] the biennial international age-restricted football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-23 national teams of Asia. The tournament will be held between 1–19 June 2022.[2] A total of 16 teams will compete in the tournament.[3] South Korea are the defending champions.

Host selection

Originally, it was determined that China would have hosted the tournament, as a preparatory competition ahead of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.[4] However, it was announced on 15 October 2020 that they would withdraw from hosting the tournament due to scheduling conflicts, stadium completion timelines ahead of other international events and challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the AFC would reopen the invitation to host.[5]

Qualification

Qualification matches are scheduled to be played between 23–31 October 2021.[6]
