Controversy
This section possibly contains original research. (April 2022) |
1. Governed comment section
Even though it claims to be "the most read Vietnamese newspaper", Vnexpress maintains controversial and interfering comment sections in which several comments that do not comply with the newspaper's views are filtered and heavily edited. The purposes of this governed comment section are to shape the reader's views and to create a bandwagon effect. On the other hand, the media occasionally post following/ responding comments that publish falsehoods, attack and insult the original commenter.[6] Sex, race, religion and origin discrimination are not filtered, but sometimes unpopular views and sciences are.
2. Transparency to clients and corporates
Vnexpress are well known for its populous readers though they are not willing to be transparent about their number of view and reach on paid-content articles. Corporations and clients who want to run paid-content on Vnexpress are requested to send supporting visuals like video clips and images in original files instead of via the third-party platform (e.g Youtube).
Such practice is regulated to avoid their customers tracking the actual reach numbers. However, there are minimum discussions or articles exposing Vnexpress ambiguity in their business model since they control the media by their unverified popularity.
