Colchester was the organ of local government for Colchester, in Essex, England. It was established in 1835 by the Municipal Corporations Act 1835.[1] The "Mayor and Commonalty of the Borough of Colchester" was reformed as a municipal borough. On 1 April 1974 it was abolished to form the non-metropolitan district of Colchester.[2]
