David Granirer is a counselor, stand-up comic and the author. He is the founder of Stand Up For Mental Health.

Granirer advocates for the de-stigmatization of mental illness and speaks openly about his experience with depression.[1] In his programs, Stand Up For Mental Health, he teaches stand-up comedy to people with mental illness as a way of increasing their self-esteem and allowing them to change their perception of their mental health journeys.[2] At the end of each class, the groups perform a graduation show that aims to reduce stigma, discrimination, and prejudice surrounding mental illness, while encouraging people to talk about it.

He is also teaches stand-up comedy classes at Langara College in Vancouver and is a public speaker who presents Fighting Stigma in the Workplace and Laughter in the Workplace.[3][4]

His father and grandparents were Romanian Jews who survived concentration camps.[5]
