Bro Radio is a community radio station broadcasting to Barry and surrounding areas in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales.
The station broadcasts locally on 98.1 FM and online and is based at studios and offices within the Barry YMCA 'Hub' centre. It was launched on Tuesday 31 March 2009[1] with Let's Get the Party Started by Pink.
Bro Radio's schedule consists of locally produced programming including music-led daytime output, local news & features, interviews, sports & events coverage, and specialist programming during the evenings and at weekends. The station also carries local news bulletins on weekdays and hourly national bulletins from Radio News Hub 24 hours a day. Aside national news, all of the station's output is produced and presented locally by about forty volunteers and a paid operations director.[1]
Bro Radio is transmitted from the Holm View Leisure Centre in Gibbonsdown, Barry,[1] (at 51°25′13″N 3°16′05″W / 51.4202°N 3.268°W) over a folded dipole antenna. Coverage is strong in several parts of the Vale of Glamorgan but varies depending on the area.[2]
