Location of Chinsali town and district

Chinsali is a town in Chinsali District of Zambia, and is the provincial headquarters of Muchinga Province. It lies 15 km west of the Great North Road and about 180 kilometres (112 miles) north-north-east of Mpika. It lies 28 kilometres (17 miles) south-east of the Chambeshi River but only 6 kilometres (4 miles) from the edge of the river's floodplain. The district is home to Chief Chibesakunda of the Bisa people.

10°32′S 32°03′E / 10.533°S 32.050°E / -10.533; 32.050Chinsali is home mainly to the Bemba people, it home to His Senior Chief Nkula who is eligible to ascend to the throne of Paramount Chief of the Bemba People based in Mungwi District of Northern Province. Notable people originating from Chinsali include Kenneth Kaunda, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe and Robert Kapasa Makasa.[citation needed]
