The Iceland (C) station [1] was naval station of British Royal Navy established in 1941 and deactivated in 1945. It was initially commanded by the Admiral Commanding, Iceland (C), who was later renamed the Flag Officer Commanding, Iceland (C).[2][3]
History
For strategic reasons the Royal Navy was distributed around the world, separated into various fleets and operating from a number of regional stations, also known as commands.[4] The Admiralty appointed a flag officer to administer the Iceland (C) station styled as Admiral Commanding, Iceland in 1941 .[5]. The station was headquartered at the shore establishment HMS Baldur, Hvitanes, Iceland. In addition it also established an accounting and accommodation shore base called HMS Baldur II as part of the station. Iceland was an important base for North Atlantic convoys, patrol and anti-submarine duties. The naval station was deactivated in 1945.
