Makaleng is a small village in the North East district of Botswana, roughly about 60 km from the nearest major town of Francistown. The village includes many ethnic groups, the two major ethnic groups being Bakalanga and Bakhurutshe.

Makaleng has a small clinic which also serves as a supplies center for other villages surrounding Makaleng such as Sechele, Mambo, Masingwaneng, Toteng and Matenge. The village has a pre school, a primary school and a community junior school which admits students from the aforementioned surrounding villages.

The natives of Makaleng are mostly subsistence farmers with ploughing fields and cattle posts on the outskirts of the village.

In conclusion the village is a vibrant one with a couple of Tuck shops and a fresh produce store. Other notable infrastructures in the village include a kgotla, which all village meetings are conducted. The village also has a night club by the name 'if not y not' and a local's favorite drinking spot or bar named Bakhurutshe, owned by the late prominent local councillor and banker Kopano Cobra Chingapani's family.
