Eddie Bell (born September 13, 1946 in Waco, Texas) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League.
He graduated from G.W. Carver High School in Waco in 1965. He played in the Texas high school all-star game in Houston, TX in 1965 as a running back. On July 16, 2016, he will be inducted the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association (PVILCA) Hall of Fame.[citation needed]
He played for the Idaho State Bengels from 1967-1969. In 1969, he was first team all-American and holds the national record for pass receiving, for 96 receptions for 1,522 yards and 21 touchdowns in a single season. In 1969, he was selected to the All-American bowl in Tampa Florida coached by Bo Schembechler, Duffy Daugherty and Buddy Ryan. In 1969, he was also the sprint champion in the 220 yard dash for the Big Sky Conference. After that he was inducted into Ring of Honor and the Hall of Fame of Idaho State. On November 22, 1969 was Ed Bell's Day in the city of Pocatello, Idaho for athletic accomplishments. In 2016, he was nominated for the NCAA college football Hall of Fame.[citation needed]
He was drafted by the New York Jets in the ninth round of the 1970 NFL Draft.
The first opportunity to start was in his rookie year and he tied a club record of 12 catches in one game against the Baltimore Colts thrown by Joe Namath. The co holders of that record are Hall of Famer Don Maynard and Art Powell (wide receiver).[citation needed]
Bell also played for the San Diego Chargers.[1]
