Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Center (Thai: ศูนย์ประวัติศาสตร์เยาวราช) or Wat Traimit Museum (พิพิธภัณฑ์วัดไตรมิตร) is a museum in Talat Noi Subdistrict, Samphanthawong District, Bangkok, Thailand. The museum focuses on the history of early Chinese immigrants in Siam (Thailand in present), especially in the area of Sampheng or popularly known as Yaowarat (Chinatown).
This museum is known as Yaowarat History Museum (พิพิธภัณฑ์ประวัติศาสตร์เยาวราช) in Thai. It is located on the second floor of mandapa (chapel) of Wat Traimit or Temple of the Golden Buddha. It show the details the history of the Chinese migration to Siam evolving to the present day Thai Chinese. The presentations in the museum use a variety of nifty audio visual and hi tech displays to make the historical journey of the Chinese and the rise of Bangkok's Chinatown an interesting and informative experience. There are photos of early Chinatown, scenes of typical Chinese homes, a well simulated view from the deck of a Chinese junk making its arduous way to Thailand in a storm, and plenty of life size models doing hard labor as coolies, which gives a very realistic portrayal of just how difficult life was for the first immigrants.
The museum is open daily except Mondays from 09.00 am to 05.00 pm, admission fee is 40 baht each, free for Thais.[1] [2]
