The Co-Cathedral of the Assumption[1] (Spanish: Concatedral de la Ascensión), also known as Chilapa Cathedral,[2] is the main Catholic temple in the city of Chilapa[3] in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, and the second in the diocese of Chilpancingo-Chilapa. It is dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption.
By orders of Monsignor Ramón Ibarra y González, the construction of the Chilapa temple, of great proportions, is ordered. This one was destroyed by a fire, in the year of 1930. The then Bishop of Chilapa, orders the works to Federico Mariscal, who resumes the construction and culminates the works of the temple.
The cathedral of Chilapa became the fourth most important cathedral in the country.
