Daewi or Taewi ("Grand Leader") is a military rank in both South Korean and North Korean militaries.

In South Korea, Daewi is a military rank used in the South Korea military. The rank is considered equivalent of a captain in many Western armies and air forces and to a full lieutenant in many navies.[1]

In the North Korean military, it corresponds to an army or air force senior captain, a rank between U.S. captain and major. A Daewi in the North Korean Navy would correspond, equivalently, to a senior lieutenant, a rank between U.S. Navy lieutenant and lieutenant commander.
